Spiders
Arachnida

Appearance: There are 1000's of different species of spiders. Of those in Colorado, only 2 or 3 are of any significant health concern. Pest management techniques for different types of spiders are generally the same. Identification of spiders can sometimes be done by the tech on site, but many times requires sending the specimen to a lab to be identified. We can assist you with that, just call our office.

Concerns: Health concerns with spiders are limited to the black widow, recluse and hobo spiders. Most other spider bites will produce a little swelling and redness, like a really bad mosquito bite. It is recommended that pest management be used if you experience an abnormal number in your home, or if several very poisonous spiders are found. Otherwise, spiders usually try to avoid being disturbed, and wont usually bite unless disturbed somehow.

Habits: Most spiders like an undisturbed area. Cracks, crevices, under shelving, in boxes, between clutter, and many other areas provide habitat for spiders. Most accredited Pest control sources consider the spider to be a beneficial insect, however, the fear of them, arachnophobia is a driving force in deciding on having a treatment done.

Control: We treat the perimeter of the structure. This reduces the population of insects around the home, including spiders, and helps to prevent them from not invading the interior. When needed, the interior treatment consists of treating cracks and crevices where spiders hide, live, and enter the home from. It helps to remove webs and eliminate egg sacs, as well as to seal any cracks or entry points found inside or outside the home, such as around windows and doors. Screening should also be kept in good shape, as well as trimming shrubs & foliage around the house and reducing clutter conditions.
