Cockroaches Blattella Germicana Appearance: The most common roach to our area, the German cockroach, is ½ to 5/8 inches long, pale brown to tan in color, with two parallel black streaks on the pronotum (shield like segment behind the head.) Concerns: Some asthmatic reactions have been known to occur in sensitive people living with cockroaches, as well as having been known to carry pathogens, bacteria and viruses. Habits: This pest is usually found infesting the kitchen and bathroom, but has the capability of living in any portion of any heated structure. They are usually found in dark, secluded harborage areas such as under cupboards, behind cabinets, in wall voids, or around motor housings in appliances, and are definitely attracted to moisture. Control: Treatment will include an inspection to determine where the roaches are nesting. Then, gel style bait is placed in small quantities in key areas. The roaches eat the bait and take it back to the nest to kill more of them as they cannibalize. In severe infestations, a clean out spraying may be needed before baiting. After following up in a week or two we can tell how effective the services were, and make appropriate recommendations.
